Guru engkau Begitu Berharga

Guruku
Kau penyuluh hidupku
Menerangi alam ini
Kau ku anggapkan
Sebagai ibubapaku

Chorus:
Wahai guruku
Kau ibarat sebatang lilin
Menerangi alam kegelapan
Kau sanggup membakar dirimu

Wahai guruku
Kau insan yang mulia
Mendidik dan membimbing daku
Kaulah insan yang kusanjungi

Guruku
Segala baktimu
Akan ku balas dengan kejayaanku
Akan ku buktikan kepadamu
Wahai guruku

Islamic Ideologies and Muslim Functionalities

Every idealism comes out for a reason and for something to be achieved.  Some of them are realistic and others are just a rhetoric. In humanity history, there are an abundant of ideologies that are tried to be implemented to a society or a community in order to gain what the thinker of ideology wants.  For sure, some of them succeed while some of them failed to shape a community with their ideology. For instance, Karl Max already succeed to implement some of his ideology in Das Capital into our daily life and the reality is we live in this capitalism system or in a simple word, we live in his ‘mind’ !

The same thing goes for Islam, Islam has it’s own ideology but Islam is more than an ideology. It is not the Prophet Muhammad’s ideology, it is about something that everything from Allah. It is a system of life, a school of thought, a kind of approachment to human being, and the most paramount thing is it is a supreme gift from God (Allah). Yes, it is a supreme gift from God!

Islam only will be seen as a supreme gift when three functionalities of a Muslim are obeyed. The three functionalities are ‘ibadullah (servant),da’ei ilallah(preacher) and khalifatullah(caliph). These triple-bonded functionalities are compulsory to be related to each other and integrated.

‘Ibadullah - Servant
In the noble Quran, Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala said:

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
                                                        (Chapter ad-Dzariyat: Verse 56 )

This verse figures out a vital responsibility to us as a servant. It’s about how to be a real devotee of the Almighty, to have full obedient to what He ask to do and not to , being humble, enslaving to Allah with full-hearted, and realizing that ourselves are ‘legal property’ of Allah and excessively dependent upon Allah.

The first step to be an ‘Ibadullah is enslaving to Allah with full-hearted which means done something with great enthusiasm and commitment for Allah and full of sincere and feeling. Then, the other step will come by itself and we will simply face the step if Allah will.

Da’ei ilallah - Preacher
In chapter Ali-Imran, in verse 110, Allah clearly mentioned regarding who is the best faction among whole mankind,

“You are the best faction produced [as an example] for mankind. You enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong and believe in Allah . If only the People of the Scripture(ahlul kitab) had believed, it would have been better for them. Among them are believers, but most of them are defiantly disobedient.”

There are some phrases that must be highlighted , ‘best faction’-khaira ummah , ‘enjoin what is right’- takmuruna bil makruf, and ‘forbid what is wrong’-tanhauna ‘anil munkar.  From these phrases, we able to understand that we only become the best faction if we perform these two obligations; ‘enjoin what is right’ and ‘forbid what is wrong’.  Imam al-Qurtubi (died 671hijrah) who is a great Quran interpreter (mufassirin) explained that Allah makes these obligations as a separator between the real believers(mukminun) and hypocrite believers(munafiqun).

The lesson from the second functionality of a Muslim is we have to enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong because this is the determinator either we are a real Muslim or Munafiq.

Khalifatullah - Caliph
A caliph is a person that responsibles in making Islam as the only way of life and the only system of thought in entire aspects of life. These aspects are not merely on ritual worship, but they include economy, education, sociology, medication, politic, technology and others.

And when your Lord said to the angels, "Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority.
( Chapter al-Baqarah: Verse 30)

We have been created and opted by Allah to be a leader and a successive authority. The answer for why we have to take this responsibility is to prove our belief that Allah is the Most Wise, surely when He put trust on us to take the responsibilities, He know that we can do it. Surely, we are the best choice to be a caliph upon the earth.

Last but not least, the three functionalities of a Muslim must be worked together in the same time. By hook or by crook every Muslim must try their best to fulfill the responsibilities as ‘ibadullah, da’ei ilallah and khalifatullah.  Let’s become the real Muslim.  May Allah blesses us in our ilfe. Insya-Allah.
